Maegan Crawford Recognized for Commitment to Service

ONEONTA, NY (05/19/2017)– Maegan Crawford of Stormville, NY, was among the 52 members of the SUNY Oneonta Class of 2017 who received Senior Service Awards recognizing their commitment to volunteerism. Students who completed at least 350 hours of service through the college’s Center for Social Responsibility and Community (CSRC) during their time at Oneonta were recognized during a reception on May 12.

Collectively, the Class of 2017 volunteered 70,000 hours in service activities such as mentoring, tutoring and working as an emergency medical technician.

More than 20 percent of SUNY Oneonta students donate time to a local organization or cause through the CSRC. As a result, SUNY Oneonta contributes over 50,000 hours of service annually to nearly 100 nonprofit agencies in Oneonta and beyond. In recognition of the college’s civic partnerships and service learning activities, the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching awarded SUNY Oneonta its Community Engagement Classification in 2011.

A liberal arts institution with a strong focus on undergraduate research and service learning, SUNY Oneonta consistently gains recognition for delivering excellence and value. The college has been named to Kiplinger’s list of “100 Best Values in Public Colleges” for 10 years running and sits at No. 12 on the 2017 U.S. News and World Report list of the best public institutions in the region. SUNY Oneonta enrolls 6,000 students in its 60 undergraduate and 14 graduate programs.
