Fishkill, New York – On May 19, 2017 at approximately 4:13 a.m., the New York State Police from the East Fishkill barracks responded to the Newburgh Beacon Bridge span after the New York State Bridge Authority reported a vehicle stopped mid-span in the eastbound lanes.

A subsequent investigation revealed that a 23-year-old man who resided in Wappinger had jumped off of the bridge into the Hudson River prior to police arriving on scene.

The Newburgh Fire Department dispatched marine units to search the river for the victim.  Several hours later, the victim’s body was recovered approximately three miles north of the bridge.

The incident remains under investigation and witnesses are asked to contact the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Wappinger by calling (845) 677-7300.
