Golden Living . . . News for Senior Citizens

Todd N. Tancredi, Director

Dutchess County Office for the Aging

“A nui ao-ao.” That’s how to say “a big party” in Hawaiian – and there’s one coming up next month at the Dutchess County Office for the Aging Senior Friendship Centers. The annual Hawaiian Luau celebration takes place at each Friendship Center on Tuesday, June 6th between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.  The festive day will include traditional Hawaiian music and a lunch of roasted chicken, sweet potatoes, green beans, rolls and cookies.  Grass skirts, leis, Hawaiian shirts and other island or beach wear are encouraged.  Make plans to bring a few friends and enjoy the warm weather as we begin to think about summer!

Everyone is invited, and there is a suggested donation of $3.00 for lunch for those 60 and over and a $4.00 charge for those under the age of 60.  Reservations are required and should be made before Thursday, May 25th.  There are Dutchess County Senior Friendship Centers in Beacon, East Fishkill, Millerton, Pawling, the City of Poughkeepsie, the Town of Poughkeepsie, Rhinebeck, and South Amenia.  For information about the Senior Friendship Center nearest you, call the Office for the Aging at (845) 486-2555.

A FEW SEATS LEFT AT THE CELEBRATION OF AGING

We’re putting the final touches on this year’s Celebration of Aging luncheon, coming up Monday, May 22 at Villa Borghese, 70 Widmer Rd in Wappingers Falls, but there’s still time for you to reserve a seat. If you have a senior neighbor, friend or family member who lives in Dutchess County and is turning 100 or more this year, or a couple in Dutchess married 70 years or more, perhaps they’ve heard about the Celebration but haven’t made up their minds whether to go, we can definitely hold seats for them. You’ll hear truly moving stories from our centenarians and couples who have been married for longer than most of us have been alive. For reservation information, contact the Office for the Aging at (845) 486-2555.

AGING NEWS EMAIL

We’ll have plenty of stories on nutrition, health, exercise, entertainment, active seniors in the news, our quarterly newsletter, and links to helpful online resources.  If you’re interested in news for and about seniors in Dutchess County, send your name and email to: bjones@dutchessny.gov.  You’ll start receiving the weekly email the first Monday after you enroll, and we can even send you “back issues” if you think you missed one.
