Cortland Manor – Helen L. Flower, 94, formerly of Clinton Corners, NY passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Field Home-Holy Comforter in Cortland Manor, NY.
She was born on December 11, 1922 in Yonkers, NY the daughter of the late Morton and Helen (Smith) Varian.
Helen attended Commerce High School in Yonkers, NY. After graduation she worked for Otis Elevator Company in Yonkers, W.T. Grant in Scarsdale and DeFemio’s Restaurant in Yonkers. She also worked for Jamesway and Stop-n-Shop in Rhinebeck, NY. She worked until she was eighty six years old.
She devoted her life to her family, showing us how to love and be there for one another.
On July 24, 1943 in Yonkers, NY she married William (Bill) Flower. He predeceased her in 2004. They were married for sixty years.
Survivors include her five children, William R. Flower of Payson, AZ; Robert M. Flower and his wife, Celine of Cortland Manor, NY; Dale A. Graves of South Salem, NY; Kevin D. Flower and his wife Susan of Yonkers, NY; Derry J. Lounsbury and her husband Warren of Edwards, NY; six grandchildren, Gary Graves, Keith Graves, Shannon (Lounsbury) Rego her husband, Paul, Warren Lounsbury his wife Kathleen, Colleen Flower and Lauren Flower; four great grandchildren, Madison & Peyton Rego, Warren & Travis Lounsbury.
She is also survived by a brother, Robert (Jack) Varian of Hyde Park, NY; a sister-in-law, Helen Mercurio of Marietta, GA; cousins Joyce (Varian) Romanchik of Yonkers, NY; Richard Varian of Hopewell Junction, NY and numerous nieces, nephews and great cousins.
She was predeceased by five siblings.
There are no calling hours.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 6th at 7749 South Main St. Pine Plains, NY 12567 with Vicar Jackie Jefferson officiating.
Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
