Narcan Kits & Cases Donated to Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office will be getting updated Narcan (Naloxone) Kits as well as Narc Cases for their K9 teams from a donation by Odin’s Fund. Odin’s Fund is a nonprofit organization started in 2000 by Doctor Paul McNamara to assist working dogs by supplying first aide training, guides and kits to agencies. Narcan has been available and used for Narcotics Detection K9’s for years, but was never readily accessible and the new Narc Cases which are a specifically designed case to carry on your person will allow K9 handler’s to have quick access to the Narcan.
Narcotics detection K9’s are trained in finding illegal substances including Heroin and other Opiate based substances which are currently rampaging through our society. They are dangerous and even deadly for people and the same goes for canines. The availability for emergency responders to now have access to and administer Narcan has been invaluable, saving many people’s lives. With this donation from Odin’s Fund all of our K9 teams, not only the Narcotics Detection K9’s will be able to carry and have quick access to Narcan for their K9 partners in case they somehow come in contact with narcotics during a search or while performing other duties.
On Monday April 24, 2017 at 3pm Doctor Paul McNamara from Odin’s Fund will be at the sheriff’s office to present the kits to Sheriff Anderson and the members of his K9 Unit and explain the importance of this.
