UPDATE – YONKERS MAN CHARGED IN WRONG-WAY FATAL CRASH ON SPRAIN BROOK

UPDATE 3/9/15 –

Valhalla, New York – Efren Moreano, age 20, of Yonkers, NY, was charged with Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd Degree (Class D Felony) and arraigned before Westchester County Superior Court Judge Robert Neary at the Westchester Medical Center where he is recovering from injuries sustained in the head-on collision.

Investigation revealed that Moreano was intoxicated at the time of the collision and had a blood alcohol content of .11 percent.

Moreano was remanded to the custody of the Westchester County Department of Corrections without bail. He is scheduled to return to the Town of Greenburgh Court on 03/13/15 at 9:30 a.m.

UPDATE 3/2/15 –
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation continues to probe the fatal motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of 46-year-old Paul Duncan of Greenburgh. The investigation remains active with a suspect in State Police custody at Westchester Medical Center. Arraignment is expected after the suspect’s physical condition has improved. Criminal charges will be announced following his arraignment.

Greenburgh, New York – At approximately 3:52 a.m. the Hudson Valley Transportation Management Center received a report of a wrong-way driver traveling northbound, in the southbound lanes of the Sprain Brook parkway. Patrol from the Hawthorne barracks were immediately dispatched to investigate the incident.

Shortly after being dispatched, Trooper located a collision in the area of Mile Post Marker 6.2 that appeared to be the result of a wrong-way driver.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2013 Honda Civic operated by 20-year-old Efren Moreano of Yonkers, New York, was traveling northbound in the southbound lane. As a result of the vehicle traveling in the wrong lane, the Civic subsequently struck a 2011 Honda Pilot head-on. The Pilot was operated by Paul E. Duncan, 46 years old, of Hartsdale, New York.

Moreano was transported to Westchester County Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition. Duncan was killed as a result of the crash.

State Police can confirm Paul Duncan was a member of the New York City Police Department who was off-duty at the time of the collision. He was a Detective 1st Grade, assigned to their Internal Affairs Bureau.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and additional information will be released on the New York State Police Newsroom as it becomes available.
