On March 12, 2017, The New York State Police – Montgomery BCI announce the arrest of 63 year old, Herbert T. Ackerson, of the Town of Hamptonburgh, NY, for 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree (a class A misdemeanor), Unlawfully Growing Cannabis (a class A misdemeanor) and Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the Second Degree (a class D felony).

On March 11, 2017, New York State Police Troopers were called in investigate a suspicious person driving around and shining a laser light at other vehicles in the Town of Hamptonburgh. An eyewitness informed responding police that the driver was now situated at a private residence. Interview and investigation found that Herbert T. Ackerson was the subject who was utilizing the laser light and during the course of the investigation, Ackerson was found to possess numerous marijuana plants.  SP Montgomery BCI responded an continued the investigation which led to the discovery that Ackerson unlawfully possessed 3 handguns in his home which he lacked any permit for in the State of New York. It was also determined that Ackerson was conducting a marijuana growing operation in his residence and that he possessed a large quantity of already processed marijuana vegetation.

Ackerson was arraigned before Judge Golden in the Town of Hamptonburgh Court and was subsequently remanded to Orange County Jail on $1,500 cash / $3,000 bond. Ackerson is scheduled to re-appear in the Town of Hamptonburgh Court on March 22, 2017 at 3:30pm.
