OREGON CITY, OR – A tight-knit Oregon community is mourning the sudden and tragic loss of 18-year-old Lucas Gray, a recent graduate of West Linn High School, who was killed in a workplace accident on Wednesday morning, July 24.
Gray, who had recently entered the workforce for the summer, was struck and killed by a forklift at a construction site in Oregon City. According to his mother, Catherine Gray, Lucas was just two days away from completing his job at the site. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It’s a mother’s worst fear,” said Catherine Gray. “He was a leader in the community, a wrestler on the school team, a Christian, a great man, and just a super light, wonderful child.”
More than a standout student and athlete, Lucas was known for his kindness, charisma, and devotion to his faith. He was admired not only by his peers but also by teachers, coaches, and neighbors for his energy and spirit of service.
“He was planning to use his life to bless others and make our world a better place,” his mother said. “He was so funny and just so charismatic. Everybody loved him.”
