WASHINGTON, D.C. — The search for 73-year-old Frankie Jones Sr., who was previously reported missing, has come to a tragic end. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) confirmed that Jones’ remains were found in Oxon Run Park in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and a death investigation is now underway.
Reported Missing in June
Jones was first reported missing by his family on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, after he was last seen leaving his residence in Southwest D.C. Concerned for his safety, MPD quickly classified the case as a Critical Missing Person, prompting a coordinated search by the Missing Persons Unit.
Flyers featuring Jones’ image were distributed citywide, and investigators launched an extensive search operation, which included multiple area canvasses and aerial surveillance using MPD drones. Despite weeks of effort, no leads emerged until late July.
Remains Discovered Across State Line
On Monday, July 21, 2025, MPD officers—while continuing their search—were conducting a canvass of a wooded area in Oxon Run Park, located in Oxon Hill, Maryland, just across the D.C. line. During the search, human remains were discovered in a remote section of the park.
The remains were transported to the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where they were later positively identified as Frankie Jones Sr.
Death Investigation Ongoing
While no foul play is currently suspected, the Prince George’s County Police Department has opened a death investigation to determine the cause and manner of death. The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office will provide the final ruling after completing their examination.
Officials emphasized that although the discovery has brought closure to the case, the investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the final circumstances surrounding Mr. Jones’ death.
