Transportation Council welcomes Public Comment on 2017-2018 Unified Planning Work Program

Poughkeepsie – The Poughkeepsie-Dutchess County Transportation Council (PDCTC) is pleased to announce that it has opened a 30-day public comment period for its Draft Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP): the PDCTC’s annual statement of work that identifies the federally funded planning activities to be carried out for the upcoming program year (2017-2018). The UPWP includes descriptions of planning tasks and resulting products, a schedule for completing tasks, the cost of the work, sources of funds, and identifies which organization will perform each task. Major tasks for the new UPWP include the launch of a Regional Transit Study in conjunction with Orange and Ulster counties, initiation of a Downtown Parking Improvement Plan for the City of Poughkeepsie, and completion of a Pedestrian Plan for the Village of Millerton. The Council will also continue last year’s local pavement condition monitoring program and high-end speeding analysis, and its long-standing annual traffic count program. The Council will also work with other County departments to implement a pedestrian/bicycle safety awareness campaign. Comments are welcome through March 3 rd . Please visit the PDCTC website for more information: http://www.dutchessny.gov/pdctc.htm About the PDCTC: Established in 1982, the PDCTC serves as the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Dutchess County. Federal regulations require that Urbanized Areas (U.S. Census defined metropolitan areas with over 50,000 people) be represented by a MPO, which is responsible for ensuring that Federal highway and transit funds are committed through a locally driven, comprehensive planning process. The PDCTC includes representatives from local municipalities, the New York State Department of Transportation, and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority
