Obituary, Mary Lewis

 

WASHINGTON, DC – Mary Lewis, 96, of Washington died Saturday, December 31, 2016, at Forest Hills of DC. Born October 29, 1920, in Sharon, CT, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Becky (Speital) Weinstein. Mary graduated from Sharon High School in 1938 and initially worked in New York City. In March 1942, she married the late Martin Lewis, an attorney. She and Martin worked for the U.S. War Department in Newark, NJ, before he established a law practice in Millerton, NY, where they resided. They had two children, Karen and Audrey. Karen and her husband, Miles E. MacIntyre, live in Arlington, VA. Their son, Martin E MacIntyre, his wife, Jessica, and their son, Everette, live in Washington, DC. Audrey and her husband, Richard Ruge, live in Washington, DC. Mary was a resident of Millerton, NY for almost 60 years before moving to Washington in 2007. For many years she worked as a dietary aide at Webutuck Central School, Amenia, NY, and Geer Memorial Nursing Home, Canaan, CT. Mary is now reunited with her loving husband, who died October 12, 1972. She was predeceased by her brother Richard (Dick) Weinstein of Millerton, NY, and her brother Henry Weinstein of Dover Plains, NY. Besides her daughters, grandson, and great-grandson, she is survived by nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:30 AM on January 8, 2017, at Schomre Israel Cemetery, 55 – 67 Lagrange Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY. Arrangements directed by Joseph Gawler’s Sons, LLC, Washington, DC. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Albans School, 3101 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20016-5095.
