Obituary, Paul S. Beneway

 

Paul S. Beneway, Sr., 87 of Verbank, died suddenly on Friday, December 2, 2016 at his residence. Born in Poughkeepsie on March 16, 1929, he was the son of Ernest L. Beneway and Nora Smith Beneway.  He was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 1948. Paul served his country with the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

On June 26, 1955 in Poughkeepsie, he married Patricia Nagel. Mrs. Beneway predeceased him on July 9, 2014.

Mr. Beneway was employed at Western Publishing until it closed and then went to work at Cary Arboretum until 1998 when he retired.

Paul was a life member of Union Vale Fire Co., a life member of 110 Rod and Gun Club and a longtime member of Century Museum Village and Collector’s Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was affectionately called “Mayor Paul” by a friend, was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Karen B. Segovia; his son Ernest L. Beneway; his daughter in law Adrienne Beneway; his grandchildren, Cody Beneway and Jade (Devin) Pollard; his sister Erma Kondor; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Paul S. Beneway, Jr. in 2006, his granddaughter, Mikela Cruz Segovia in 1993 and his brothers Samuel and Robert Beneway.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 7 from 7-9 pm at 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook. Interment will be in Verbank Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made in Paul’s memory to the National Kidney Foundation.
