Millbrook, NY – Mary Jordan Gilbert, administrator at Vassar College for twenty years, died on November 24, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, NY.

Mrs. Gilbert, a resident of Poughkeepsie since 1959, was appointed Administrative Director of the Office of Public Relations at Vassar College by then President Sarah Gibson Blanding. She served subsequently as Director of Editorial Services until 1979. Until her retirement, she was employed by Turnkey Information Processing, Inc. in New York City. She was listed in the Fifth Edition of Who’s Who of American Women.

Mrs. Gilbert was a member of the Junior League of Poughkeepsie, the Poughkeepsie Vassar Club, and served for 9 years on the Board of Directors of the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center. She was a former member of the Mahwenawasigh Chapter of the D.A.R.

Born December 5, 1924, in New Haven, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late William Amos Jordan and Marion Porter Jordan. She was graduated from the Prospect Hill School in New Haven and from Vassar College. Mrs. Gilbert held the M.A. degree from Wesleyan University and did additional graduate work at Yale University.

A teacher of mathematics and English, Mrs. Gilbert was formerly employed at the Potter School in Tucson, Arizona, and the Prospect Hill School in New Haven. She also served on the staff of Elmo Roper & Associates, the market research pioneer, in New York City.

A resident of Hamden, Connecticut for many years, she was a former member of the William Morris Chapter of C.A.R, the New Haven Skating Club, the Junior League of New Haven, and the New Haven Vassar Club. At the time of her death she was a member of the Church of the Redeemer in New Haven.

Mrs. Gilbert is survived by a step-sister, Mrs. Florence-Anne Fuller Bradbury, and several cousins.

There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in the family plot in Beaverdale Memorial Park, Hamden, Connecticut. Graveside services will be at the convenience of the family.
