Obituary, Joyce M. Spohr

 

Pine Plains, NY – Joyce M. Spohr, 82, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2016 at Geer Nursing and Rehab in Canaan, CT.

She was born on December 31, 1933 in Poughkeepsie, NY the daughter of Charles and Mary Margaret (Peggy) (Hewitt) Case.

Joyce worked for over thirty years for the Pine Plains Central School District. Twenty eight of them were spent as the librarian in Seymour Smith Elementary School.

In her younger years she was very active in the community, serving and participating in many activities such as, the Pine Plains Library Board, Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, Pine Plains Garden Club, the Pine Plains Ladies Auxiliary, town softball and bowling leagues. She was also a book keeper for four years for the Pine Plains Town Supervisor.

On January 3, 1953 in Pine Plains, NY she married Donald Spohr. He survives her at home.

In addition to her loving husband, survivors include a son, Gary R. Spohr and his wife Linda of Cooper City, FL; a grandson, Jason Spohr of Canajoharie, NY; a granddaughter, Ashley Ullman and her husband Tim of Millbury, MA; a step-granddaughter, Erin Johns and her husband Corey of Mount Juliet, TN.

Joyce also took great pride in being a great grandmother to Benjamin and Hailey Ullman and Jacob Johns. She also has a special nephew, Bruce Case.

She was predeceased by her brother Robert H. Case.

She also had a very kind heart and leaves us with many great memories. The family would like everyone to dress in business casual attire for the service.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 22, from the Pine Plains Presbyterian Church, 3039 Church St. with Pastor Carol Miller officiating. A reception will follow the service.

Interment will be private.
