State Police investigate fatal motorcycle crash in Washington

Washington, New York – On October 14, 2016 at approximately 7:45 p.m., a Trooper from the New York State Police Poughkeepsie barracks was responding to assist the Village of Millbrook Police Department with a subject with a knife at the Millbrook High School football game.  The Trooper was  traveling eastbound on State Route 44 with emergency lights and sirens activated when he was involved in a collision with a motorcycle operated by a 45-year-old Brooklyn man.  The collision took place at the intersection of State Route 44 and Sharon Turnpike in the Town of Washington.
The operator of the motorcycle, whose identity is being withheld at this time pending notification to his next of kin, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision.
The Trooper was transported to Vassar Hospital for evaluation and was released with minor injuries.

The crash was reconstructed by the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and remains under investigation.
