Claverack, New York – On October 12, 2016, New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested Adam G. Kane, 35 years old, of Hudson, New York, for Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, and Reckless Driving, all Misdemeanors.

Troopers patrolling State Route 9 observed a cargo van traveling northbound in excess of 70 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. The truck failed to comply with the emergency vehicle’s lights and sirens and continued onto State Route 23.  The driver stopped on Route 23 in the area of the Claverack fire house.  As officers approached the vehicle, the driver later identified as Kane, took off at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle was subsequently stopped in the area of State Route 23 and County Route 16.  Kane exited the vehicle and actively resisted arrest.  A subsequent investigation revealed that he was intoxicated at the time of the stop.

Kane provided a breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .18%, more than two times the legal limit of intoxication.  He was also charged with possessing approximately 2.8 grams of marihuana.

The defendant was arraigned before the Town of Claverack Justice Cozzolina and remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
