Philipstown Man Faces Drug Possession Charge

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Philipstown man on a charge of drug possession.

On September 22, 2016 at 8:28 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Irwin stopped a motorist who had committed a traffic violation on Route 301 in the Town of Philipstown.

Upon approach, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle. The deputy determined that the driver, identified as Kenneth R. Place, 25, of 33 Mill Road, Philpstown was in possession of quantities of marijuana and cocaine. The deputy arrested Mr. Place and charged him with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation; and with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a misdemeanor. The defendant was processed at the PCSD Nelsonville substation and released pending a future appearance in the Town of Philipstown Justice Court to answer the charges.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
