Thruway Accident Kills Tow Truck Operator

On October 10, 2016 approximately 5:50 am New York State Police responded to a tractor trailer/pedestrian accident on the NYS Thruway at mile post 193 in the Montgomery County Town of Canajoharie.

A tow truck owned and operated by Roosevelt and Sons towing of Canajoharie, N.Y. was loading an uninvolved disabled vehicle from the westbound lane of the Thruway and was standing alongside of the tow truck when he was struck by a passing tractor trailer.

The tractor trailer, a 2015 Freightliner, owned by Performance Food Group of Virginia was operated by Alexandro Perez, age 41 of Springfield, Ma.

Mr. Perez was westbound on I-90 and struck the tow operator who was working near the fog line.

The tow truck driver, James Homkey, age 51 of Canajoharie, N.Y. was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alexandro Perez was not injured.

Investigation into the cause of this accident is continuing.
