Teachers, parents, and students at Webutuck Central School District showed their support for public education on Thursday

Teachers, parents, and students at Webutuck Central School District showed their support for public education on Thursday. The district joined hundreds of other schools across the nation in an organized “walk-in” to promote educational opportunity for all. A walk-in is a positive endorsement of public education. Participants gathered together outside the schools in Amenia at the beginning of the day and all walked in together to symbolize a united front in support of quality public schools that all students deserve. The local event was organized by the Webutuck Teachers’ Association.

Nationwide over 100,000 people took part in this walk-in for public education, which was sponsored by the Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools (AROS). AROS is a coalition of over 100 community and labor organizations. The group believes that the best way to ensure that each and every child has the opportunity to pursue a rich and productive life is through a system of publicly funded, equitable and democratically controlled public schools.
