State Police investigate fatal crash on the Sprain Brook Parkway

Greenburgh, New York – On February 27, 2015, at approximately 3:52 a.m., the Hudson Valley Transportation Management Center received a report of a wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the Sprain Brook Parkway. Patrols from the Hawthorne barracks were immediately dispatched to investigate the incident.

At approximately 3:57 a.m., Troopers located a collision in the area of Mile Post Marker 6.2 that appeared to be the result of a wrong-way driver.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2013 Honda Civic was traveling northbound in the southbound lane. As a result of the vehicle traveling in the wrong lane, the Civic subsequently struck a 2011 Honda Pilot head-on. The operator of the Civic was transported to Westchester County Medical Center where he is in a medically induced coma. The operator of the 2011 Pilot was killed as a result of the crash.

At this time, the names of the drivers are not be released pending family notification.
