Traffic stop conducted on State Route 199 nets the arrest of South Carolina man for gun possession

Milan, New York – On September 19, 2016, New York State Police from the Rhinebeck barracks arrested James P. Collins, age 40, Piedmont, South Carolina, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, a Class C Felony, and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, a Violation.
Subsequent to a traffic stop conducted on State Route 199, Collins was found to possess marihuana and a loaded unregistered 9mm Rugar handgun. Collins was stopped by the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit after they observed him exiting the Taconic State Parkway towing a trailer.
Collins was arraigned in the Town of Milan Court before Judge Kremenick and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in Lieu of $1,000.00 cash bail or $2,000.00 bond. He is due in Milan Court on October 6, 2016.
