Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of two men on menacing charges as a result of an incident in Patterson.

On February 9, 2015 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Charles Johnson responded to a report of a dispute at R and V Flooring located at 35 Commerce Drive in the Town of Patterson. Two workers at that location had become involved in an altercation over the way a truck was being unloaded, during which one of the subjects had displayed a knife. Upon arrival, the deputy determined that Garfield O. Barnett, 48, of 77 Locust Hill Avenue, Yonkers, New York had brandished a knife and had threatened to use it against Noel Rivera, 47, of 1425 26th Street, North Bergen, New Jersey. An investigation revealed that during the course of the altercation, both men feared for their personal safety and believed that one was intending to do harm to the other. The deputy arrested both men, charging Mr. Barnett with Menacing in the Second Degree and Mr. Rivera with Menacing in the Third Degree, misdemeanors. The defendants were processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendants could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
