BRIARCLIFF MANOR, NY – In an unprecedented move, the New York State Conference of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) have formally endorsed New York State Senator Terrence Murphy. A progressive and diversified workforce, the IUOE operates and maintains heavy equipment that help build our roads and maintain our infrastructure.
Jeff Loughlin, Business Manager of Local 137 said, “Senator Murphy has proven time and again his willingness to stand with local labor. He is a man of strong integrity who is on the side of working men and women. Some elected officials talk about fighting for the middle class but Senator Murphy has actually done it. We are proud to have him on our side and fully endorse his candidacy for reelection.”
Senator Murphy’s growing relationship with labor groups has surprised many. While his father, Jack Murphy, spent 52 years as a member of Utility Workers Union of America, Senator Murphy has continued to carry the torch of fighting for middle class families across the Hudson Valley.
“It is an honor and privilege to have the support of the IUOE,” Senator Murphy said.  “Members of IUOE have been working firsthand on the New Tappan Zee Bridge which stands as the largest infrastructure project in New York State.  To see what is being accomplished there gives you a glimpse of the skill and talent of these incredible workers.  I am so proud to have them on my team and look forward to our continued work together.”
IUOE’s endorsement is added to a growing list for the Murphy campaign which includes the New York State AFL-CIO, New York State Nurses Association, CSEA and the Utility Workers Union of America Local 1-2.
