As the country celebrates National Hot Dog Day—traditionally held on the third Wednesday in July—there’s no better time to spotlight some of the Hudson Valley’s best hot dog joints. While it’s officially a one-day celebration, we believe the humble hot dog deserves year-round love.
From classic roadside stands to gourmet creations, the Hudson Valley is sizzling with hot dog greatness. When we asked locals for their favorite spots, the response was one of the biggest we’ve ever received. Clearly, hot dogs hold a special place in the hearts—and stomachs—of Hudson Valley residents.
Here are six standout hot dog spots you’ll want to sink your teeth into:
1. Dallas Hot Wieners – Kingston, NY
A Hudson Valley institution, Dallas Hot Wieners has been dishing out delicious dogs since the 1920s. Their signature chili sauce is legendary and pairs perfectly with mustard and onions. A must-visit for traditionalists.
2. Pete’s Hot Dogs – Newburgh, NY
Family-owned since 1932, Pete’s is a go-to for many in the area. Known for quick service and friendly vibes, their hot dogs are loaded with toppings and history. Try the chili dog with a side of nostalgia.
3. Noshi’s Coney Island – Poughkeepsie, NY
This spot brings a taste of Coney Island to the Hudson Valley. They serve up snappy dogs with all the classic fixings, and their chili and cheese combo is a fan favorite.
4. Hot Dog Charlie’s – Cohoes (with a mobile cart in the valley)
While technically based in the Capital Region, Hot Dog Charlie’s mobile cart frequently makes its way into the Hudson Valley. Their mini dogs with Charlie’s signature meat sauce are a treat you can eat by the dozen.
5. Village Hot Dog – Goshen, NY
Known for their fresh buns and wide variety of toppings, Village Hot Dog is a hidden gem. Their customer-favorite “Goshen Special” dog includes kraut, mustard, and a tangy house sauce.
6. Dog Haus Biergarten – Mohegan Lake, NY
A more modern twist on the classic, Dog Haus offers all-beef dogs on King’s Hawaiian rolls. Their gourmet-style toppings include bacon, jalapeños, and even avocado. Perfect for adventurous eaters.
Honorable Mention: Many locals were disappointed when Stewart’s Shops began phasing out hot dogs earlier this year. While no longer widely available, their dogs clearly left a lasting impression.
A Personal Favorite
Growing up in the Hudson Valley, one of my fondest memories was stopping at the old Sabrett truck off Exit 19 on I-84 in the ’80s and ’90s. My go-to? One dog with chili, the other with onions—still my favorite combo today.
Whether you’re reliving childhood memories or discovering a new favorite, these Hudson Valley hot dog spots are ready to serve up flavor, tradition, and a whole lot of summer fun.
