D.C. Gas Prices Rise Slightly, But Remain Lower Than 2024 Levels

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Gasoline prices in the nation’s capital have seen a modest increase over the past week, but they remain significantly lower compared to this time last year, according to the latest data from GasBuddy.

As of this week, the average gas price in D.C. is $3.30 per gallon, based on a survey of 122 stations across the city. That reflects a 6.6-cent increase over the past seven days and a 6.7-cent rise from last month.

Despite the recent bump, prices are still 36 cents lower than they were at this time in 2024, offering some relief to consumers during the summer travel season.

National and Regional Comparison

While D.C. saw a price increase, the national average price of gasoline dropped slightly, falling by 1.7 cents per gallon over the past week. The current national average stands at $3.09 per gallon, which is 11.5 cents less than a month ago and 37.7 cents cheaper than the same period last year.

In neighboring Maryland, drivers are paying an average of $3.10 per gallon, a 4.5-cent decrease from the previous week.

These regional and national figures suggest that local supply and demand factors, refinery output, and transportation costs could be influencing the recent uptick in D.C. fuel prices.

Outlook for Drivers

Gas prices tend to fluctuate during the summer months due to higher travel volume, changes in crude oil prices, and refinery operations. While D.C. drivers are paying slightly more than they were a few weeks ago, they are still seeing more affordable prices compared to 2024, when fuel costs were considerably higher nationwide.
