Medical Reserve Corps to Offer Active Shooter Preparedness Program August 18th

The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) of Dutchess County will offer a presentation on Active Shooter Preparedness on Thursday, August 18th, at 7 p.m., at the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response, 392 Creek Road in Poughkeepsie.  The training is free and open to the public.

“Hopefully, none of us will ever have to use this potentially life-saving information,” saidDutchess County Sheriff Adrian “Butch” Anderson, “but, it is important to prepare ourselves for all types of emergency situations.”

Dutchess County Deputy Sheriff Arthur Hart will present the program, which will focus on how citizens should respond if an active shooter is in their vicinity, what to do if an evacuation is not possible, and what to expect when law enforcement arrives.

“Our Medical Reserve Corps unit supports the County’s Departments of Emergency Response and Behavioral & Community Health when responding to incidents of all kinds,” said Commissioner Henry M. Kurban, MD, MBA, MPH, FACPM. “We are proud to collaborate with the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office to offer this vital training to our volunteers and to residents.”

Comprised of both healthcare and non-healthcare volunteers, the Medical Reserve Corps of Dutchess County is part of a national network of more than 200,000 Medical Reserve Corps volunteers dedicated to supporting public health infrastructure as well as disaster preparedness and response in their communities.
