Police Investigate Armed Carjacking in Southeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is investigating an early morning carjacking that occurred at gunpoint in Southeast Washington, D.C.

The incident took place around 5 a.m. Friday in the 2900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE, where two armed suspects allegedly approached a driver and stole a Chevrolet Impala, police said.

According to the MPD, both suspects brandished firearms and used them to threaten the victim before fleeing the scene with the vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

Authorities have not yet released descriptions of the suspects. The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information or surveillance footage from the area to come forward.

This carjacking comes amid heightened concerns over public safety in the district, including recent reports highlighting deficiencies in local security efforts and the ongoing issue of gun violence.
