Young Woman Critically Injured in Head-On Crash in Carmel

CARMEL, NY – A serious head-on collision at the intersection of Stoneleigh Avenue and Drewville Road left a young woman critically injured on Saturday afternoon.

The accident occurred around noon at a junction located less than a quarter mile from Putnam Hospital Center—a spot known for frequent accidents over the years.

Emergency services were quickly dispatched following 911 calls, with units from the Carmel Police Department, Carmel Fire Department, Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and an Empress EMS paramedic team responding to the scene.

The young woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was trapped inside her severely damaged vehicle. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate her. Due to the severity of her injuries and significant blood loss, a medivac helicopter was requested. First responders administered a blood transfusion on-site to stabilize her condition before she was transported to the helipad at Putnam Hospital.

From there, the victim was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center for advanced trauma care.

As of now, police have not released the names of anyone involved in the crash. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
