Poughkeepsie, NY… In its inaugural year, the Dutchess County Historic Tavern Trail brings history and local cuisine together, while introducing the community to iconic locales. Each installment of the program is held at a different historic location and includes a brief presentation of the site’s history.

Historic Red Hook will host the upcoming tavern trail event at the Elmendorph Inn in Red Hook at 6 p.m. this Friday, July 8th.

“The Tavern Trail is a wonderful way to attract lots of new visitors to Red Hook,” said Historic Red Hook President Claudine Klose. “We are especially pleased to welcome everyone to the restored glories of our wonderful inn.”

The Tavern Trail is a collaborative endeavor between the Dutchess County Department of History, the Dutchess County Historical Society, and local historical societies to create an innovative program that highlights the county’s rich history.

County Historian William P. Tatum III said, “The Dutchess County Historic Tavern Trail highlights many of our iconic buildings and the history contained in our epic landscape. These programs are a fun way to explore the links between history, cuisine and local culture that make our area such a vibrant place.”

The Elmendorph Inn began its life as a farmhouse in the 1760s, subsequently serving as a stagecoach stop on the post road and the first Red Hook town hall. The local preservation and restoration effort, ongoing since the 1970s, has transformed the building into one of the county’s historic jewels and made it a vibrant center of town life. The program will examine the inn’s colorful past and the restoration process in detail. From the Ground Brewery, Hudson Valley Distillery, and Tousey Winery will be offering tastings of their products to attendees.

Future installments of the series will visit the Stissing House in Pine Plains on August 12th and Old Drover’s Inn in Dover Plains on September 9th, before concluding at the Kimlin Cider Mill in Poughkeepsie on October 14th.

Reservations may be made online at http://www.meetup.com/DutchessTavernTrail. Tickets for each program are $5 per person and include discounts on meals and access to special tastings at host sites. Additional event details are available here or at www.facebook.com/DutchessTavernTrail.
