OFFICE FOR THE AGING HAS INFO, WILL TRAVEL

The Office for the Aging is scheduling more of its popular presentations to groups near you, from Pawling to Tivoli to Dutchess Junction to Mount Riga and everywhere in between. Presentations include an overview of Office for the Aging services, as well as a new update of the popular Successful Aging presentation, which highlights the 12 steps seniors can take to start on the road to thinking more positively about the aging process, eating right, exercising more, making new friends and closer connections with loved ones, and even laughing more! There’s no such thing as being too old or too young to start making the good choices that will help you age successfully. These good choices can help increase the chances of spending more of later life independently in your own home, close to loved ones and friends, and reduce the chances of moving into institutional care. The overview of Office for the Aging services is also an excellent presentation for all adults with senior parents and relatives living in Dutchess County, as many county residents and civic leaders may be unaware of all the Office for the Aging has to offer and may not be able to travel from outlying regions of the county to the main office in Poughkeepsie.

The presentations take between 30 minutes and one hour (not including Q&A afterwards) and are free to schedule. If your community group, social organization, house of worship, senior center, or other service organization has the capacity to host a presentation free to adults of all ages, contact the Office for the Aging at (845)486-2555 or email outreach coordinator Brian Jones at bjones@dutchessny.gov to find out more. He’s eager to hit the road and meet with as many of Dutchess County’s estimated 60,000 seniors as is possible.

With the annual Medicare enrollment period coming up in just a few months, we’re also scheduling presentations specifically on Medicare and Medicaid-related issues. The Office for the Aging’s calendar is already filling up quickly with groups seeking to assist their members in understanding the world of navigating these powerful but continually evolving, and sometimes complex, federal programs. Office for the Aging information Services Specialist Maggie Kwet hosts the Medicare/Medicaid presentations and is also prepared to answer Medicare and Medicaid questions on how to apply, when to apply, and what is required of individuals in order to qualify for benefits. She can be reached at the main Office for the Aging number listed both above and below.

Golden Living is prepared by the Dutchess County Office for the Aging, 27 High Street, Poughkeepsie, New York 12601, telephone (845)486-2555, email: ofa@dutchessny.gov website: http://www.dutchessny.gov/CountyGov/Departments/Aging/AGIndex.htm
