Kirby Hill Farm and Spins Bowl New York Open Doors

to Dutchess County Chamber of Commerce’s Youth Leadership Program

Poughkeepsie/Pawling, N.Y. (June 24, 2016) – Kirby Hill Farm and Spins Bowl New York recently participated in The Youth Leadership Tour of Dutchess County Day 2016. The event, which was conducted by The Chamber Foundation, Inc.’s Youth Leadership Program and Dutchess Tourism Inc., invited students to visit local businesses in an effort to help them become more aware of and involved in what’s happening in their very own community.

As we prepare our local youth for success, it’s essential that we instill in them the importance of community involvement. The Youth Leadership Program does exactly that. Not only have they made it their mission to equip students in the area with the academic, social and life skills they’ll need to succeed as leaders, but they also continue to stress the importance of community in that success. The program immerses high school sophomores and juniors into a collaborative environment which both challenges them and prepares them for college and much of what comes after. Perhaps what’s most important to the program is real world experience.

“Dutchess Tourism is pleased to arrange the day tour for The Chamber Foundation’s Youth Leadership Program. This tour gives them a better understanding of the huge economic impact tourism has in Dutchess and showcases many of our agritourism and tourism leaders,” said Lydia Higginson, Vice President, Dutchess Tourism Inc. “Kirby Hill, Spins Bowl and their other attractions are just some of Diamond Properties stellar sites in Dutchess. The tour offers insight into a wide variety of tourism related careers. Tourism is big business in Dutchess, employing almost 10,000 people, with 4.3 million visitors who spend 508 million.”

Throughout the Youth Leadership Tour of Dutchess County Day, the hopeful local leaders of tomorrow were welcomed to take tours and see what a normal day at these Dutchess County businesses looks like. Kirby Hill Farm in Pawling was one of the stops on the trip. While there, they got to see what this truly unique and special equestrian center has to offer. The students were able to tour the facilities where horses are housed and trained, as well as learn about the many events and activities held there, including recreational riding and personalized lessons.

“We were so glad to participate in this day and help educate students on the farm’s operations and animal care. We hope they enjoyed their time at the farm as much as we enjoyed sharing what we do on a daily basis,” Paul Kuhn, General Manager, Kirby Hill Farm said.

To close out the day, the group spent time checking out the bowling alley and arcade center at the new-and-improved 50,000-square-foot Spins Bowl facility in Poughkeepsie. Once the tour was complete, Spins Bowls treated all students to a $5 arcade gift card.

“We were thrilled to be able to show our recently refurbished facility and give these children a chance to understand the business. This was a great opportunity to make learning fun and we hope the students were able to take something special away from the day,” said Corrado Ilardi, General Manager, Spins Bowl, NY.

Other stops on the tour included the Robotics Lab at Dutchess Community College Poughkeepsie, McEnroe Organic Farm, and Crown Maple.

“The Chamber Foundation is proud to partner with Dutchess Tourism for coordinating this unique day along with all of the locations that hosted our Youth Leadership students. Tourism plays a significant role in Dutchess County and by the end of the day, students understand its importance in our economy. We thank all the locations that made this day possible including, Dutchess Community College, McEnroe Organic Farm, Madava Farms – Home of Crown Maple, Kirby Hill Farm and Spins Bowl,” said Nicholas Shannon, Executive Director, The Chamber Foundation.
