OBLONG BOOKS CELEBRATES FIVE YEARS OF FIND WALDO LOCAL! THIS JULY IN MILLERTON AND RHINEBECK
RHINEBECK & MILLERTON, NY—-Friday, July 1st marks the beginning of what has become a summer institution in Millerton & Rhinebeck. Oblong Books & Music will hold its 5th annual FIND WALDO LOCAL! scavenger hunt in both villages throughout the month of July.
The “Find Waldo Local!” initiative was started by the American Booksellers Association and Candlewick Press, and is limited to 250 independent bookstores nationwide. Oblong is proud to have been a part of the program since its inception, and a great many of this years’ local participating businesses have also been with us from the get-go.
Waldo will be hiding in twenty two businesses in Millerton & twenty two in Rhinebeck. Kids of all ages are encouraged to pick up a Waldo “Passport” at Oblong Books beginning Friday, July 1st in the village of their choice and start hunting! When they spot Waldo at any one of the businesses listed in the passport, the store will give them a stamp or signature.
When the hunters have collected at least 11 of the possible 22 different store stamps/signatures, they can bring their passports to Oblong Books – a.k.a. FIND WALDO LOCAL headquarters – to claim an “I Found Waldo” button and a “$1 OFF” coupon (limited to first 100 Waldo spotters).
Kids who collect at least 18 of the 22 possible store stamps/signatures must bring their passports to Oblong Books and will be entered in a drawing for a deluxe boxed set of Waldo books and other great prizes.
While the kids are hunting, parents and chaperones are encouraged to stop and browse the local stores and shop local! Families LOVE the Find Waldo game and it has become the highlight of the summer.
The month-long hunt will culminate in a Waldo grand celebration and prize-drawing party at both Oblong Books & Music store locations on Sunday, July 31 at 12:00 p.m.
