Mary Anne Baker Named EMS Communications Specialist of the Year

Poughkeepsie, NY… The Dutchess County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Council presented special recognitions for EMS providers and their partners on Wednesday night at the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response. The annual awards highlight the important role of our first responders and the invaluable and critical services they provide to the community. Dutchess County Public Safety Dispatcher Mary Anne Baker was named as the EMS Communications Specialist of the Year.

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said, “Congratulations to all of this year’s award recipients, especially our own, Mary Anne Baker. The services provided by Ms. Baker and all of our first responders should never go unrecognized. We are grateful for their unwavering contributions and sacrifices to their community and Dutchess County.”

Ms. Baker was selected as EMS Communications Specialist of the Year for her handling of an incident involving a child asphyxiation call. By using the training she received as an emergency medical dispatcher, she instructed the mother of the choking child over the phone on how to clear his airway while at the same time, keeping the mother calm during the high-stress event.

The award is in recognition of their continuous efforts to promote quality and safety for current and future EMS providers in Dutchess County. The award details significant contributions that enhance the focus on the delivery of EMS in the community.
