A LaGrangeville man and former police officer has allegedly been pretending he’s still a cop, according to a news release today from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.

Frederick Eberhard, 25, was charged with second-degree criminal impersonation, a misdemeanor. Eberhard resigned from the Sheriff’s Office in July 2014.

Eberhard, used to be a part-time deputy with the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and a part-time Marlborough police officer, was arrested on Thursday by the Sheriff’s Office, after police investigated complaints from local tow companies.

Eberhard has recently been working for a local tow company as a driver, and has allegedly been pretending to be a police officer when he “crossed paths with some of the other local drivers at scenes,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Eberhard was released on an appearance ticket, and is due back in Town of LaGrange Court on March 3.
