Teresa M. Swalagin, 93, a life-time resident of Pawling, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Wingate at Dutchess, Fishkill, NY.

Born in Pawling on March 20, 1923 to Angelo and Agnes (Taney) Capalbo, Teresa was a nurse’s aide at Harlem Valley State Hospital, Wingdale, NY for 38 years.

Teresa was a communicant of St. John’s Church, the Catholic Daughters, and the Alter Rosary Society, and was a long-time “Cat Mom”, adopting and caring for many homeless cats over the years.

Teresa is survived by her two sons, George (Mary Jane) Swalagin of Carmel, NY and Charles (Lisa) Swalagin of Yonkers, NY; her daughter, Patricia Coleman-Gardella of Tallahassee, FL; four brothers, Mike of Carmel, Sy of Pawling, and Dominick and Roland Capalbo of  Poughquag, NY; four grandchildren, Bruce Barbera of Sleepy Hollow, NY, Brian Barbera of Newburgh, NY, Anne-Noel Barbera of Cocoa, FL,  and Shannon Morcey of Waterbury, CT; six great-grandchildren, Sydney, Paige, and Chloe Barbera, Aliyah Barbera, and Peter Slade Morcey and Greta Morcey; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She is predeceased by her husband, George, who passed away in 1989, and several brothers and sisters.

Family and friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling Sunday, June 5th 2-4 and 7-9 PM; the Catholic Daughters will conduct a service at 2 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, June 6th at St. John’s Church, Pawling; burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
