WASHINGTON, D.C. – A woman was injured in a shooting outside the Kennedy Recreation Center in the Shaw neighborhood just before 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
Incident Details
The incident occurred near 1401 7th Street NW, between O and P Streets, right in front of the popular Kennedy Rec Center. Witnesses described a heavy police presence on the scene well into the evening. By 7:30 p.m., multiple MPD units were still investigating the area, and the department officially confirmed a shooting investigation just before 7 p.m.
According to an MPD report, an officer in the area heard the sound of gunfire around 6:00 p.m. (1800 hours). Upon responding to the scene, the officer found the victim—referred to as “V-1” in the report—inside the recreation center building.
The woman had suffered a gunshot wound to her right buttock. First responders transported her to a local hospital, where she received treatment. Her current condition has not been publicly disclosed, but the injury is not believed to be life-threatening.
Investigation Ongoing
Police have not released any information about potential suspects or a motive at this time. It is also unclear whether the victim was the intended target or caught in crossfire.
As of Wednesday morning, no arrests had been announced, and the case remains under active investigation. MPD is urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
