Obituary, Joseph Pizzo

 

Joseph Pizzo, 96, a resident of Millbrook, NY formerly of Dover Plains and Yonkers, NY died on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Northern Dutchess Residential Health Care Facility in Rhinebeck, NY. Mr. Pizzo was a self-employed New York City taxi driver for many years.

Born on April 29, 1920 in New York, NY he was the son of the late George and Leanora (Chenassi) Pizzo. On February 5, 1940 in New York City he married Angelina “Jean” Pizzo who predeceased him on April 23, 2009. Mr. Pizzo proudly served in the US Army during WWII and was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Dover Plains, NY.

Mr. Pizzo is survived by three daughters, Georgianna Matassa of New York, NY, Patricia Forchetti Proft of Poughkeepsie, NY and Gina Chiverton of Wingdale, NY; three grandchildren, Michael and Nicole Chiverton and Peter Matassa and a great-grand daughter, Nicole Matassa. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Pizzo was predeceased by three brother, a sister, and a grandson, Salvatore Matassa.
