SPONSORS NEW MOBILE HEALTH CENTER TO BRING QUALITY HEALTHCARE TO UNDER-SERVED COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE HUDSON VALLEY

ArchCare and HRHCare Mobile Health Partnership

Launched New Mobile Health Center With Visit to Dover Plains Parish

DOVER PLAINS, NY, May 24, 2016 – Deepening its commitment to providing healthcare to underserved populations throughout the Hudson Valley, ArchCare, the healthcare ministry of the Archdiocese of New York, launched a new mobile health center to deliver primary care and other essential health services directly to those who need them most. Developed in partnership with and operated by HRHCare Community Health, one of the nation’s largest community health providers, and made possible by generous grants from ArchCare and the Hearst Foundation, the 33-foot mobile health center will deliver a broad array of health services to underserved populations throughout the Hudson Valley, including agricultural workers, the frail elderly and low-income families, regardless of their ability to pay.

On Sunday, May 22, the mobile health center made its first stop at St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Dover Plains, NY, to offer tours and provide parishioners and visitors with information, access to community services and basic health screenings, including blood pressure and weight checks.

“As a health ministry, we saw far too many people who were forced to forego essential medical services because they were poor, had no transportation or couldn’t leave work without jeopardizing their livelihoods,” said ArchCare President and CEO Scott LaRue. “The goal of the mobile health center is to meet people right where they are, whether that is at a farm, a community agency, a parish or other religious center or some other location, to enable them to access the care they deserve and often desperately need regardless of their limited financial means or lack of insurance.”

The mobile center will make introductory stops at other local parishes in the coming weeks, and will be officially blessed by New York Archbishop Cardinal Timothy Dolan at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 29 at HRHCare’s Farmworkers Health Center in Goshen, NY.

“For more than 40 years, HRHCare has been working to ensure that underserved communities throughout the Hudson Valley had a place to go to receive quality health care. This new mobile health center is part of our growing effort to not only give people a place to go for health care, but bring quality health care as close to home as possible,” said Anne Kauffman Nolon, MPH, President and CEO of HRHCare. “We are so proud to partner with ArchCare in making sure that New Yorkers can receive health care, whether they come to us, or we come to them.”

The Archdiocese of New York has a long history of stepping in to serve society’s unmet healthcare needs. Programs such as ArchCare’s skilled nursing center for people with HIV/AIDS, a specialty hospital for children with profound neurological impairments, and its specialized services for people with Huntington’s disease at ArchCare at Ferncliff’s Center for Neurodegenerative Care in Rhinebeck, NY and ArchCare at Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center in New York City, all were borne out of gaps in care that others were unwilling or unable to address. Under the leadership of Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the archdiocesan health system continues to expand, today caring for more than 6,000 people each day in their homes, in the community, and in nursing homes.
