Car crash in Amenia leads to felony DWI arrest of Dover Man

AMENIA – A Dover Plains man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly fled the scene of a one-car crash in the Town of Amenia.

At about 8 p.m. Thursday night, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the accident scene at 505 Old Route 22 to find a 1998 Mitsubishi laying on its side, but the driver was nowhere to be found.

A witness told police that the driver had left the scene. Ignacio Perez 26 was located near his home on Mill Street in the Town of Dover.

During their interview and investigation, deputies determined that the driver, Perez, was intoxicated while driving his vehicle.

Perez, was charged with driving while intoxicated, his second DWI-related offense, a class E felony, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

But during the arrest, Perez allegedly became physically combative and he was subsequently charged with resisting arrest.

Perez was arraigned in the Town of Amenia Justice Court and posted bail. He is scheduled to reappear in court on March 3.
