KEEPING YOUR “FILE OF LIFE” UP TO DATE

A “File of Life” contains potentially lifesaving information for first responders should you experience a medical emergency. Those kind of emergencies can happen at any time, and when they do, paramedics arriving on the scene will have no information about the person in need – unless there is a File of Life available. The File of Life is a magnetized packet that contains an information card for you to fill out with your medical conditions, allergies, any medications you take, emergency contacts and more. The faster the paramedics get this information, the better your odds of getting the best possible care when time is of the essence.

If you need help setting up your File of Life, stop by the Staatsburg Library, 70 Old Post Rd., at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, May 23, when EMT Dee Sagendorph from the Staatsburg Fire Department will lead participants through creating a File of Life and provide some general tips about safety in and around the house. For more information, call 845-889-4683 or email staatslibrary@gmail.com.  If you are unable to make the presentation, the Office for the Aging has a limited number of the File of Life packets that can be picked up at our office at 27 High Street in Poughkeepsie during business hours.  The File of Life cannot be mailed and is limited to one per person.

The third and final lecture of the spring series takes place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 23 at the Fountains at Millbrook, and will feature Dr. Esther Kando Odescalchi with “60th Anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution and My Escape to Freedom.” Refreshments will be served at both events. FOR THE JONGG AT HEART

Starr Library in Rhinebeck has begun a mah-jongg program for players of skill levels from novice to expert. Carol Kleban will be teaching those who have not played before, but experienced players can bring their own sets of tiles as well. Some old coaches fade away once they hang up the headset – not 88-year-old NFL legend Bud Grant. He’s got a yard sale going this week, and judging by the picture he’ll even help you load your truck: http://www.twincities.com/2016/05/09/bud-grant-and-his-garage-sale-are-back-on-twitter/
