TAG, BARN, BOOK SALES & MORE!

in Sherman this Memorial Day Weekend

MAY 27-29th

The quiet little hamlet of Sherman, CT, will be humming with activity this Memorial Day weekend. There is something for everyone, so mark your calendars; you won’t want to miss out.

Women can get a jumpstart on the weekend’s entertainment and shopping at the Women’s Soirée at the Sherman Library on Friday, May 27, 7 pm – 9 pm. There will be champagne, hors d’oeuvres, raffles, door prizes, and a silent auction of new and like-new handbags, scarves, jewelry and watches—all donated to support the library. It’s wonderful fun so plan to come and invite your friends. It’s $25, tickets available at the library. RSVP by Tuesday, May 17 to SL@biblio.org or call 860-354-2455. The Library is at 1 Sherman Center.

Be sure to get a good night’s sleep, though, for the THREE BIG SALES. All run Saturday: 9 am to 4 pm and Sunday: 9 am to 12 pm, so make time for each!

The annual, fundraising Barn Sale at the Sherman Historical Society. The barn and tents will be packed full of awesome bargains and fantastic finds and there’ll be morning baked goods and lunchtime food and refreshments.  The Old Store gift shop, which always has wonderful items in stock, will be open as well.  The Historical Society is located at 10 Route 37 Center, with convenient parking nearby.

While you’re in the Center, check out the Sherman Library Book Sale across the street. There will be thousands of books, organized for easy browsing, plus rare books, audio books and DVDs.

But pack your reading for the beach because there’s more shopping to do. Just a hop/skip from the Center, is the Jewish Community Center Tag Sale you’ll not want to miss! The JCC is located at 9 Route 39 South.

All of the monies raised from the several events goes to support these worthy organizations and their many wonderful programs for- and services to- the community. While you hunt for bargains and treasures, you’ll feel good knowing that every penny you spend will, in turn, be well spent.

Also mark your calendars: Sherman Historical Society will have its annual educational and entertaining Kids @ Cobbler Shop summer camp in late June. It fills up fast so make sure your young ones are signed up early. Then, the SHS will host its Family Day, on Saturday, July 16, from 3-5 pm. Featured: a spectacular show by renowned Mario, The Magician; a reading/signing of the new children’s book by Doris Tomaselli and Carol Paterno; plus oodles of children’s games and activities. Stay tuned for more….

But on Memorial Day, let us never forget. When all that shopping and entertainment winds down, we invite you to join us for the Annual Memorial Day Parade on Sunday at 1PM. It’s always a special event in Sherman and reminds us all that we enjoy our freedom because of those who fought and sacrificed all for it. We honor them and offer our deepest appreciation.
