Former Fishkill Correctional Facility inmate charged with possessing a weapon

Fishkill, New York – On April 20, 2016, New York State Police from the Wappinger barracks arrested 26-year-old Rahmel Smith, an inmate at Mid-State Correctional Facility, for Promoting Prison Contraband in the 1st Degree, a Class D Felony.

Troopers were contacted to assist the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Office of Special Investigations with the arrest of Smith, a former Fishkill Correctional Facility inmate.  In December of 2015, Smith was found to be in possession of a weapon while incarcerated at Fishkill Correctional Facility.  He has since been transferred to Mid-State Correctional Facility.

The New York State Police were assisted by the NYS DOCCS Office of Special Investigations.

Smith was arraigned in the Town of Fishkill Justice Court and returned to the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision pending his next court appearance.
