Poughkeepsie, New York – New York State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks arrested two Poughkeepsie residents following a Larceny investigation reported to police in February of 2016.  On April 16, 2016, the State Police arrested Apolonio Martinez, 24 years old, for Forgery 2ndDegree, a Class D Felony.  On March 24, 2016, 33-year-old Patricia Aragon Cruz was charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony.

Troopers were contacted by a Beekman man who reported that he had issued a check to a Poughkeepsie woman in October of 2015 which she believed that she lost.  While reconciling his bank statement, he discovered that the check had been cashed by a third party.

An investigation revealed that Aragon Cruz and Martinez came into possession of the check and cashed it after Martinez forged the payee’s signature.

Aragon Cruz was arraigned in the Town of Pleasant Valley Court before the Honorable David Sears and remanded to the Dutchess County jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

Martinez was arraigned in the Town of LaGrange Court before Judge O’Hare and released on his own recognizance.
