Obituary, Georgina Victoria Mitchell Olsen Lyon

 

Georgina Victoria Mitchell Olsen Lyon passed away peacefully at her home on March 8, 2016. Gina was the 2nd of 6 children born to immigrant parents from Scotland and Ireland. She was born in a Manhattan brownstone on May 26, 1916, and although she lived in several states, remained a proud New Yorker for her entire life. She had an exciting career as an executive secretary, eventually becoming executive assistant to entrepreneur and businessman Victor Kiam.

Gina was an exceptional woman, ahead of her time, always in control of her life and always loved. While living in North Carolina, she enjoyed times with her friends in the Mocksville Woman’s Club. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Holland, Michigan. Georgina was preceded in death by two devoted husbands, Eugene Wilbur Olsen and Roland Lyon. Also by her parents, Alexander and Alice Mitchell, sisters, Mary Shaw, Sarah Denton, Ruth Mitchell, brother, Alexander Mitchell and son-in-law, Daniel Geribo. A beloved mother and grandmother, she is survived by her children, Peter Christian Olsen(Alison) of Cortlandt Manor, NY, Jayne Olsen Geribo of Holland,MI; grandchildren, Peter Christian Olsen II(Gladys) of Mt Vernon,NY, Becky Geribo Yonkman(David) of Vienna, VA, Simon Olsen of Cortlandt Manor NY, and Elizabeth Olsen Raum(Brandon) of Cortlandt Manor,NY; great-grandchildren, Analisa Olsen and Emily Yonkman. She is also survived by her sister Alice Jude and sister-in-law Shirley Mitchell of Raleigh,NC as well as many nieces and nephews. A private burial service was held on March 19, 2016 at Whaley Lake, NY – a beautiful spot where she met her husband Wilbur and spent so many wonderful days with her family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to hospice or the charity of your choice.
