DCC Student Earns Sheriff’s Association Criminal Justice Scholarship

February 19, 2015 – A New York State Sheriff’s Association Institute Criminal Justice Scholarship has been awarded to Dutchess Community College student and Hopewell Junction resident Gerald Ryan. The $250 award is presented annually to a full-time Criminal Justice major from each community college in New York state. Candidates for the scholarship must excel academically as well as demonstrate financial need.

DCC President Dr. Pamela Edington, Dutchess County Undersheriff Kirk Imperati, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Captain John Watterson and DCC Criminal Justice Program Chair Dan Valentine were on hand to present the award.

“Gerald is a Dean’s List student who regularly goes above and beyond what is expected of him,” said Valentine. “He’s extremely deserving of the sheriff’s award.”

Ryan plans on continuing his studies in criminal justice and has applied to a number of four-year schools.
