WALDORF, Md. — Three juveniles, ages 12, 13, and 14, have been arrested in connection with a car theft early Wednesday morning in Waldorf, while a fourth suspect remains at large, according to police.
Incident Overview
The incident unfolded around 3 a.m. on July 9, when officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Crain Highway following reports of several juveniles walking through an apartment complex parking lot and possibly breaking into vehicles.
Upon arriving at the scene, the responding officer observed the youths getting into a Hyundai Elantra and driving away. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the juvenile driver refused to pull over, leading to a brief pursuit.
The car eventually came to a stop in the 2900 block of Crain Highway, where four individuals jumped out and fled on foot. Officers were able to apprehend three of the four suspects immediately. The fourth suspect remains unidentified and is still being sought.
Investigation and Charges
After contacting the vehicle’s registered owner, authorities confirmed the Hyundai Elantra had just been stolen from the complex.
The 13- and 14-year-old suspects were charged via juvenile offense reports, in accordance with Maryland law. Both were later released to their parents.
The 12-year-old suspect, however, cannot be charged due to age restrictions under state law.
Ongoing Investigation
Police are continuing efforts to identify and locate the fourth suspect. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward.
The incident adds to growing concerns over youth-involved car thefts and break-ins across the region. Law enforcement officials say they are taking the issue seriously and increasing patrols in targeted areas.
