COLUMBIA SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATES FATAL ACCIDENT IN CLAVERACK
CLAVERACK, NY – Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that Sheriff’s Patrols were dispatched by Columbia County 911 at about 11:52pm last night to a one vehicle automobile accident on State Route 23, just west of Green Acres Road in the Town of Claverack.
Deputy Sheriff’s found that a 2004 GMC pick-up truck, operated by a 25 year old Reymondo L. Martinez of Craryville NY, was traveling eastbound on State Route 23 and for unknown reasons traveled off the south side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a large tree, then two stone pillars in the driveway of 898 State Route 23, and then coming to rest facing west in the eastbound shoulder. Greenport Rescue Squad had to extricate the driver and sole occupant from the vehicle. The 25 year old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident is still under investigation by Sheriff’s Investigators, the Sheriff’s Accident/Incident Investigation Unit and Coroner Blasl. An autopsy has been scheduled for this morning with Doctor Hubbard at St. Peters Hospital.
