Ulster County Man Charged With Petit Larceny

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of an Ulster County man on a charge of petit larceny.

On February 14, 2015 at 2:15 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Andrew Kristan responded to a report of a shoplifter in custody at the ShopRite supermarket located at 170 Route 52 in the Town of Carmel. Store employees had observed the man place two television sets into a shopping cart and then leave the store without paying for them. The suspect was identified as Douglas D. Harris, Jr., 44, of 8 Hudson Lane, Lloyd, New York. The deputy arrested Mr. Harris and charged him with Petit Larceny, a misdemeanor. The defendant was arraigned at the Town of Carmel Justice Court and committed to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500.00 cash bail pending a future court appearance.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
