NEW WINDSOR, NY — A road construction zone turned into a scene of emergency Monday afternoon when a flagger directing traffic was struck by a vehicle on Route 32 near Old Forge Road.
According to authorities, the vehicle entered the active work zone and hit the flagger, who was on duty helping guide drivers safely through the area. The impact left the car’s windshield visibly crushed and the vehicle immobilized in the middle of the road. Police secured the area with tape as they began their investigation.
Emergency medical services from New Windsor responded quickly to the scene. The injured worker was transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital for treatment. The extent of the flagger’s injuries has not yet been disclosed.
