County Facilities Undergo Cost-Saving, Energy Efficient Lighting Upgrades
Poughkeepsie…Energy efficient lighting upgrades at ten county buildings are expected to save taxpayers approximately $57,000 per year in lighting costs. Several county owned buildings are undergoing retrofits with new LED lamps, ballasts, and fixtures, replacing inefficient and outdated fluorescent technologies, all at no cost to the County. The project is part of a lighting 
initiative incentive program administered by Central Hudson in partnership with Greenleaf Energy Solutions.
Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro said, “Dutchess County is proud to partner with Central Hudson and Greenleaf Energy Solutions to reduce our energy consumption and cut costs for our taxpayers. This project will provide our employees with a safer and brighter environment to conduct county business. We look forward to expanding this initiative in other facilities and buildings throughout Dutchess County.”
This year, Central Hudson is offering a special incentive by providing more than $1,000,000 to local municipalities to upgrade interior and exterior lighting to LED (light emitting diode) technology. Through this special incentive, municipal and county governments can apply for funding that covers 100 percent of lighting upgrades in office buildings and facilities. Ten county facilities are taking part in the initiative including Bowdoin Park, Dutchess County Airport, Department of Public Transit, Department of Public Works (DPW) Highway Division, Dutchess County Courthouse, DPW Rhinebeck Outpost, DPW Pine Plains Outpost, Board of Elections, Department of Mental Hygiene, and the Dutchess County Jail. These savings will be reflected in County Executive Molinaro’s 2016 Tentative Budget, as part of an overall reduction in electric costs totaling more than $190,000 compared to the current year. County Executive Molinaro will present his 2016 Executive Budget on October 28th.
